A data atlas · BLS + the Klepify swarm

The Atlas of US Work.

Three hundred and forty-two occupations. Every paid job the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks. Sized by how many Americans actually do it. Colored by whichever lens you want to look through — pay, projected growth, AI exposure, education, or how many listings Klepify has buried for being ghosts.

How to read this.

Every rectangle is one occupation. Its area is proportional to how many Americans hold that job — Software Developers (~1.9M) get a big tile, Boilermakers (~10K) get a tiny one. The color shifts based on whichever metric you've selected above.

The standard lenses come straight from BLS:

And the lenses that only Klepify can show, drawn from our live swarm corpus:

Why this matters.

Two things, mostly. One: if you're job hunting and the BLS says your occupation has a "-12% outlook" while pay sits at the bottom 25%, that's information you deserve to have before you spend three weeks tailoring resumes. Two: when ghost-job density on this map outpaces actual employment growth, it's evidence that we're not in a "tight labor market" — we're in a job-listing market detached from real hiring.

Klepify is the only company that can build the Klepify-specific layers on this map. The BLS owns the official numbers; we own a swarm-corpus view of what the listings actually look like once they hit the major job boards.

Data credits: Occupational data — including median pay, 2024 employment, 2034 projections, and entry education — comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (public domain). AI exposure scores come from the Language Modeling AIOE measure in Felten, Raj & Seamans (2023)Occupational Heterogeneity in Exposure to Generative AI, scored per six-digit SOC code. Scores have been linearly mapped from the paper's standardized continuous scale to a 1–10 integer for display. The "ghost rate", "swarm pay", and "swarm volume" layers are Klepify's own data, computed nightly from the Ghost Graveyard.
